A huge, recurring theme for this year’s TICE project is to love where we live, and doing what we can to bring showcasing the beauty of what we call home. Our dear friend at TICE, Lee Peacock (Peacocking) pulled together an exciting blend of graphic design, communication design, storytelling and commercial design…a truly mixed bag of invaluable skills being tapped into for this wonderful project, Heroing Home.

Project Outline
When looking to some of the world’s creative capitals (namely London, New York and Tokyo) their neighbourhoods, districts and boroughs all use very different styles to indicate the area’s vibe – something that has developed and evolved along with the residents over decades.
Urban branding is a process used by communication designers to turn somewhere from a location into a destination. Taking inspiration from the spaces culture, landmarks and the people who inhabit to communicate the story in a predominantly visual way.
Recent times have seen us lean on our local communities more than we’ve ever had to in our lifetimes. It’s time to dig deep, explore, discover everything your local area has to offer and begin “heroing” home.
The Brief
So, what would you use to represent your neighbourhood?
This project will give you the tools you need to represent your community through design through creative exploration. Utilising Communication Design, you will be supported in creating either a visual identity or storytelling experience centred around the place you call home.

What did the students think of their TICE experience?
Please tell us your chosen project and why you chose this one?
“Heroing Home
I chose this because it is something I find fascinating, focusing on the true beauty of my local buildings and the architecture inside of them. I feel each building has a story of its own.” Cailey, Marden High School
What do you think you will take away from doing this project?
“The skill to really understand a place and what the meaning of it is. I also think I will take away the skill of communication and confidence.” Cailey, Marden High School.
“I have achieved a design I am happy with along with a sense of pride because I was working outside my comfort zone.” Rowan, Marden High School.
Thank you & Well done!
All we have left to say is thank you and well done, not only to Sarah for completing this amazing piece but to the teachers at Marden High School, North Tyneside Learning Trust, the companies that have supported and contributed to these briefs and the TICE team that plugged away at the project week after week.
To the students, we hope you have enjoyed this project, we hope in years to come that you can proudly present an industry-written project you did, achieved, and quite frankly smashed. Well done and congratulations from everyone here at TICE.
