What is the TICE Programme?

Since 2008, the TICE Programme has become one of the north east’s most successful creative programmes for young people from Year 9 onwards. The winner of the Design Skills award at the National Creative & Cultural Skills Awards, we have a proven track record of providing young people with hands-on careers progression, opportunities, skills development and guidance that specialises in the creative, design and digital sectors.

Designed to provide young people with the information, tools and networks they need to make informed decisions about their future, The TICE programme is the first step in providing an industry-led overview of the commercial creative, design and digital industries.

TICE Programme 2022-23

TICE programme is a blended learning experience for young people (year 9 onwards) wanting to explore the scope and opportunity that the creative, design and digital industries can offer.

To start, schools select which, out of our creative areas, they would like to explore. From then, students gain access to a range of projects written by industry professionals showcasing through practical delivery their job roles and what it is like to work in their sector. Working with their online TICE accounts, students can gain skills and experience developing their own project which will be supported by the TICE Team.

On completion, the students will have a professional piece of work to place in portfolios, EPQ's, Arts Awards or use as work experience.

Project Enhancement Workshops

In addtion to the online delivery, we can offer a variety of workshops in-school or external visits to enhance all the projects the students have chosen. This could include industry visits, meeting project sponsors, skills development workshops and higher-educational insight.

What are the industry projects like?

TICE projects emphasise the topics, issues and trends prominent in society today and more importantly for students, how they will evolve in the future by using industry-sourced trend-prediction to highlight changes in up-and-coming sectors.

In doing this, students gain access to industry professionals who showcase how they do their jobs through challenges and tasks supported by brands worldwide. They gain skills, knowledge and awareness directly from people in industry willing to share their professional insight.

By choosing a project that stimulates their personal interests and aspirations and subjects they feel passionate about, the students gain a wealth of experience but most importantly develop an understanding of a career path they previously would not have known existed.

Examples of projects

Our projects change each and every year moving with industry and exploring the skills and topics their sector is looking for in young people wishing to enter these careers. Once a school has chosen which creative area (s) they would like to explore there is then an array of projects for the students to choose from. Here's a small selection of some of the recent projects:

HOW IT WORKS

HOW TO GET YOUR STUDENTS INVOLVED

The TICE Programme is aimed at Year 9 and above. A recruitment video (in-person, live or pre-recorded) will be available to present the opportunity to either a whole year group or a pre-selected group of your choosing.

Once the students and the creative areas have been selected and application process will register each student onto the programme.

WHEN DOES IT START?

Schools can choose to to start the programme in September, January or April. The projects are scheduled over 10 weeks with timed delivery giving the students plenty of time to do research and complete tasks and challenges within the project.

Deadlines are set within the projects to support the students in completing their work. The final deadline collects in the work from the students and the TICE Team take over in post-production.

Working with INDUSTRY Professionals

Each project has been co-written by TICE mentors and industry sponsors. We have a vast network of supporters internationally who provide insight, knowledge and awareness to create exciting, creative industry-relevant content for young people to delve into and explore. This is in the form of interviews, skills development workshops, behind-the-scenes footage and much more.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT

In addition to industry engagement, TICE works alongside further and higher educational professionals gaining access and insight to courses, programmes and academic progression. Our projects include interviews and guidance given from tutors, lecturers, current students and recent graduates giving further advice on creative subjects and niche expertise.

Explore our Creative Areas

The rapid growth and the speed of technological change can make it difficult to keep up with the fast pace of the creative, design and digital sectors. Each TICE mentor works alongside industry leaders to gain an understanding of key developments and to recognise emerging skills shortages.

Both our programmes and workshops reflect the developing needs of industry and, in terms of sector awareness and employable skills, we keep abreast of changing trends. Each of our creative areas taps into trend-driven and innovative provision to support and develop the career decisions of the young people we work with.

“I would say to someone considering to do TICE next year, that they should definitely do it because it’s a great, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that can really help with their future and show people evidence of their amazing skills that they will gain throughout TICE that will help in your project choice industry as well as in day-to-day life, such as confidence and creativity. You get to meet so many new people that share the same interest and passion as you in the same projects which leads to new friendships and improves teamwork skills a lot, even if you aren’t too keen on working with others or with people you don’t know. I found TICE very helpful and enjoyable and it is one of the best experiences in my life.
