Welcome to TICE Textiles & Craft

The textile industry is very exciting and diverse with the potential of jobs in lots of different sectors. If you’re interested in pursuing a career in textiles you might take a more design-led pathway or choose to be more craft-based. As a textile designer you might be creating patterns for woven and knitted items such as fabrics, rugs and other upholstery type products or creating printed or embroidered designs to be applied to the surface of fabrics. You could be using high-end cutting edge technology and computer aided design to create these designs and working for big companies, fashion houses or agencies. If you’re interested in creating one-off bespoke items and taking your design through into the production stage you may be more suited to craft-based work. Textile designers or makers need to be highly creative and artistic and have a good grasp of current trends within the fashion, home, stationery and interior markets. Overall the opportunities are diverse, there’s lots of different paths to follow, it’s a great Industry to work in!

It will offer me lots of different opportunities to gain access to multiple jobs and it will give me a boost in confidence to take GCSE textiles. I can gain new skills such as learning how to operate sewing machines and the option to work with new people, gaining team building skills.

The whole day was full of activities and was great to be a part of it was a great experience. It was fun and great for learning about the textiles & craft area of work! It was great to have something we could actually look at and know we made that! Making the pillow case was fun and let our creativity go wild. It was also fun to get to know the people on my team and make some friends. my teacher recommended this and I'm glad she did! it was a great experience and I'm sure my friends could say the same. I loved learning about trends and how people in the textiles industry do it. I was intrigued to see all the different mood boards and see all the different possibilities.
