Welcome to TICE Careers & Enterprise

ABOUT 1 IN 8 UK BUSINESSES IS IN CREATIVE INDUSTRIES

Statistical evidence which has been established over a decade shows that the creative industries have grown faster than any other industry economy in the UK. With an estimated 2,040,000 jobs (2019) - 75 per cent of them outside London - the UK's creative industries are developing new jobs faster than other sectors. However, creative industries are well known for being characterised by a prevalence of SMEs, micro-businesses, start-ups, freelancers and project-based work with, for example, some 84% of creative media firms employing fewer than 10 people. Whilst this can be seen as an entrepreneurial sector with expansion and opportunity ahead, it is also known as a market in which there is under-investment in human capital, fewer training opportunities, insufficiently structured career progression and unfair access to jobs and opportunities. But is that really true? TICE Careers & Enterprise workshops are designed to support young people wanting to gain an understanding of the creative industries. An understanding of the jobs that exist and the labour market information which supports this fast-paced, trend-driven sector.

TICE is very important to students because they suddenly get a chance to see what it’s like to live and work in the creative sector and they get to do things that don’t really have the opportunity to do in school – they get to lead, they have to work together.

TASTER
WORKSHOPS

Focused on an introduction to a sector within the creative, design or digital industries.

Any opportunity to engage with employers and to participate in projects and activities that involve employees from companies to really showcase what the industry is like, is an added benefit to any young person. TICE is an organisation that collaborates with a wide range of people from across the digital and creative industries, so that by participating, young people really do get to see a wide range of employer opportunities and to engage with a lot of employers from those industries. I think the young people are in a very fortunate position because they’re getting to peel back the skin of that industry and see what’s underneath.
