Since the pandemic, we have seen consumers engaging with more localised, community-driven products, services, and experiences. As a result, popularised spots are becoming more irrelevant as people begin to gravitate towards more personalised, meaningful moments.

For instance, travel-goers are creating TikToks, and Instagram Reels filled with their top spots, many of which are unheard of. This has now become the source of many people’s travel research and planning. Most notably, Air BnB has been showcasing an individual’s personal experience of a host’s space through a series of photofolio advertisements – which has also become a viral hit amongst travel-goers. For this project, students need to think carefully about what overlooked location or experience they would like to shine a light on through photography.

Project Outcome

For this project, students needed to think carefully about what overlooked location or experience like would like to shine a light on through photography. Using their knowledge and skills gained in this project, they chose and engaged in a location or experience which may be often overlooked. Their outcome was to create a series of images based on their photographic style and then embody the role of a creative director and use digital marketing skills to shape their images into an advertisement.

A huge congratulations to Maddy Lee from Durham School, Hannah Houston-Stewart from Consett Academy, and Alfie Butler, Leo Wilkes, Luke Currie, Sophie Johnston, Bethany Dalton and Ellie Larson from Duchess' Community High School for revealing an overlooked location.
