Welcome to TICE
When we describe what it is that we do at This is Creative Enterprise, the response we always get is, “I wish I’d had that when I was at school”... so, what do we do? We work with businesses, schools, colleges and universities to give young people a taste of the opportunities that exist within the commercial creative, design and digital industries.
The students we work with range in age from four up to 24 and the projects we introduce evolve every year to reflect the rate of change in the commercial creative sectors. We like to say we provide an emporium of brilliant ideas, incredible innovation and inspiring opportunities, but we couldn’t fit all that on our business cards. So, this is us, This is Creative Enterprise, providing students across the north east with creative innovation through business enterprise.
What we do
From our one-day workshops in primary schools to our longer-term projects with secondary school students, the experiences we offer and the businesses we work with change each year. This reflects the speed of innovation that takes place, month by month, across the creative, design and digital sectors in our region. Over the last ten years, TICE has worked with over 250 businesses in the north east and beyond.
The learning we provide ranges from 45-minute long presentations to bring the subject of employer engagement into schools, to providing full days of activities exploring the commercial creative, design and digital industries.
How we work
We introduce students to current industry trends, perspectives and emerging opportunities by giving the young people we work with the chance to explore in full the scope of the careers that exist within the commercial creative industries. We work to give each student real-time, hands-on access to what’s happening in the world today – so they can think about where they might see themselves in the future.
Our collaborative approach demonstrates how both educational staff and industry employers can work together to develop young peoples’ skills and career awareness.
TICE brings a unique and invaluable perspective to student learning outside the classroom.
With us, young people can explore the worlds of:
Fashion | Textiles | Music | Photography | Software development | Graphic design | Illustration | Creative enterprise | Creative writing | Film | Digital Media | Animation and more… and we love what we do.
All our primary school workshops are suitable for any Key Stage, and we can work to meet the abilities of the children within your school, including those with any additional needs. We deliver our workshops throughout the north east, tailoring them to fit any theme or the individual requirements of your school.
All our secondary school workshops are suitable for any Key Stage, while our TICE programme is aimed at students in Year 9 and above. TICE is unique. Our professional industry mentors bring a wealth of creative, design and digital expertise to each workshop and programme they work on. And with a long and proven track record, we’re dedicated to designing and developing memorable student experiences that make a difference.
TICE International launching in September 2019
Having TICE in to do the “horticulture and biodiversity” workshop with year 2 has been amazing. Bringing a topic of “plants” to the children through the media of music and art was so worthwhile and the rich learning that occurred in the lessons was fantastic.

The programme is the best thing our students have ever been involved in both inside and outside of school. The opportunities, experience and benefits will not be fully realised for years to come. It has changed them for the better and has given them role models they didn’t know existed.

TICE is very important to students because they suddenly get a chance to see what it’s like to live and work in the creative sector and they get to do things that don’t really have the opportunity to do in school – they get to lead, they have to work together. They’re filling their CV's with things that the creative sector really wants to see. It’s invaluable to them.
